Pressure Instrumenation

Every GEK kit comes with a two channel manometer that fixes to the front of the gas cowling.  Pictures of the GEK manometer installed are here: http://allpowerlabs.org/gasification/gek/images/v2.0/v2.0gallerynewmanometer.html . This manometer is easy to make yourself, using the files and instructions below.  There are also specific install instructions for how to mount and plumb it on your GEK in the GEK assembly instructions towards the bottom of the page.  http://gekgasifier.pbworks.com/Assembly-Instructions-GEKv3-LevelV-kits

We stopped using dial inches of h2o gauges with v2.0 as they are easy to foul with tar and break on overpulls.  Given the gauges cost $40-$50 reach, and you need two of them, we figured out a cheaper and more robust solution.  Thus the simple CNC plasma cut manometer seen below.

This manometer reads (-20) - 0 (+20)  inches of water.  The tube plumbing should be 1/4"ID clear tubing.  Ends are terminated to 1/8" brass barbs that screw into some plumbing bung at the measure point.  The two measure points we use are "reactor drop" measured in the gas cowling at grate level.  And "total filter train and reactor drop" measured at the end of top of the packed bed filter.

You can fill the manometer with any watery fluid.  We use coffee so we can see it.  Also, then we can call out readings with statements like "we're reading about 4 inches of coffee, Joe".  Grape juice would work nice too.  As would dark beer.

1 kPa =  0.145 psi (50 kPa = 7.25 psi)

(would require soldering and changes to code to handle new pressure ranges)
