Paint the GEK:

Painting the GEK is a good weatherproofing measure, it will keep the GEK beautiful while giving it a protective coating for longer life. Paint the GEK before firing it up, it is much easier to paint when its clean.

Parts List:

-High temp paint ~500F or higher. (Do not use paint that can not withstand heat!)

-All of the fabricated parts to be painted (see list below)

Paint the places that need paint; Do NOT paint the places that don't need paint!

(Below is a list of the parts to be painted, pay attention to the places that should NOT get painted. Paint typically will go around the outside body of the full assembled GEK including most pipe fittings.. Paint will typically be absent in places that are considered the inside of the system, around flanges, and in places in which higher temperatures are expected, otherwise burning paint will create toxic fumes.

The parts are painted as followed:

-cowling (outside of cowling, excluding: the inside, top flange, gas out square flange)

-reactor (air neck only, excluding: top flange, bottom gas cowling flange, the inside, and the main body)

-bottom lid (outside only, two 1.5'' cap fittings)

-top lid's cover plate (one side only)

          -reactor lid (outside only)

-ash cover plate (one side only)

          -grate cap and handle

          -reactor's rocket legs

-all pipe fittings (EXCEPT: flare, flare reducer, 8'' or 5'' 3/8ths flare pipe, valves, brass fittings, ignition port fittings)

          -cyclone (except for square flange)

          -cyclone's mason jar adapter (outside)

-cyclone tube plate (outside only-the side with the shorter tube)

-long 1.5'' gas line to filter

-filter 1.5'' fittings (90, close nipple, cap), .5''fittings (two caps, one reducer)

          -filter lid

-inside of filter (optional: painting will protect the filter from condensing tars)

Parts that should not be painted:

          -reactor grate

-inside stand-off grate for filter and filter cover grate.

          -ignition port pipe fittings

-pipe fittings for the flare (3/8ths to 1.5'' bell reducer and 8'' or 5'' 3/8ths flare pipe)

-Flanges (tape them up before painting, see below)
